A semi-realistic watercolor painting depicting a plump, tempting pomegranate. I named this piece "Persephone" after the Greek Myth: Persephone, daughter of Demeter, was abducted by Hades and taken to the Underworld to be his queen. Grief-stricken, Demeter caused the earth to become barren until her daughter was returned. Because Persephone had eaten pomegranate seeds in the Underworld, she was bound to spend part of each year there. A compromise was reached: Persephone would spend several months below and the rest above with her mother. Her annual descent and return explained the cycle of winter’s scarcity and spring’s renewal in Greek mythology.
Persephone (Pomegranate)
The piece is painted on 8.375 in x 11.4375 in Arches paper so there is quite a border around the piece - centered in the middle of the paper.
